Washington Examiner economics columnist Tiana Lowe Doescher said Republicans need to work on their messaging leading up to the midterm elections and focus on cost-of-living improvements.
“I think all the messaging has to be about, ‘Guess what? If you have a child, you have that Trump account set up with $1,000,’” Doescher said Monday on Newsmax’s The Right Squad. “… ‘If you are a service worker, you have no tax on tips,’ you have to point these things out.”
President Donald Trump’s stance in favor of data centers has faced backlash over increasing concerns about artificial intelligence and whether they are increasing consumer electricity prices. Lawmakers and AI tech giants have pushed for more regulation surrounding AI. Doescher advised candidates to remind voters of the benefits of these developments.
“Go to all the data centers and at every single data center, ‘This is how many new jobs we’ve had,’” Doescher said. “Go to the power company and say, you know, ‘Georgia Power said they were able to cut prices for their clients because of the data centers.’ And that is because of Trump, right?”
While other issues such as immigration policies, global conflicts, and healthcare are still major topics, the overarching concern driving voters is the cost of living. The war in Iran has sent gas prices skyrocketing, leading to some members of his own party breaking with the president, including two Republican representatives in Iowa.

Doescher said Trump could also end 90% of the tariffs tomorrow and claim a victory to boost his party.
“This is a cost-of-living election as it always has been,” Doescher said.
