“I hope your venue gets firebombed.” That’s a real comment from a leftist reacting to the Massachusetts lesbian bar, Last Ditch Bar and Arts Venue, dropping its mask mandate — for just one night per week — in an effort to increase business. Here’s another: “People like you kill disabled people in the name of your own leisure and convenience.”
The lesbian bar is facing a firestorm of allegations of bigotry, ranging from ableism to outright racism, in what has to be the most comical and unserious controversy of the year. When the bar’s owner tried to explain himself, one critic lambasted him for crying “WHITE THEY THEM TEARS.” Another lamented “a WHITE therapist” for centering the “feelings of a majority white and white adjacent staff.”
A couple more funny ones: “Just say you’re being complicit in a mass disabling event and get it over with,” one critic said. “When y’all close, let the record state it was ableism + complying in advance, because that’s what it is,” another wrote.
But the absolute funniest comment came from Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), one of the most notoriously unhinged members of the House, who posted on X, “getting a group together to visit the weird lesbian bar in western mass dm if interested, can’t talk here” — and followed up with, “trip cancelled, no one wanted to mask.” The fact that nobody could tell whether she was serious is as hilarious as it is concerning.
So here’s the thing: Mask mandates were stupid in 2020. They were objectively ineffective at stopping the spread of COVID-19 — the boxes the masks came in even had fine print saying they did not protect against the virus. Anthony Fauci admitted “there’s no reason to be walking around with a mask,” before his medical advice took an unscientific and authoritarian turn. But as stupid as they were six years ago, they’re even dumber in 2026 now that sharing this information won’t get you deplatformed.
During the pandemic, people who refused to wear masks or take an experimental vaccine that had its own efficacy issues were called “grandma killers.” I received death threats after suing Rutgers University for its nonsensical COVID-19 mandates, which went as far as requiring the vaccine even for those studying remotely. But frankly, I thought medical fascism was out of style. Apparently the “Fauci youth” movement is alive and well in Greenfield, Massachusetts.
This is what happens when left-wing orthodoxy goes unchecked. This is what happens when there’s nobody to tell the crybaby Left, “No.” It may be an extreme example, but this is a microcosm of how rigid the Left’s dogmatism can be — you either comply with the masses, or you’re a racist ableist murderer who should be firebombed. This is not representative of every person who identifies as left-of-center politically, but by and large, people in leftist bubbles such as college campuses are buying into this radical, violent, victim mentality.

This is the exact mindset responsible for the cold-blooded killing of Charlie Kirk, because he dared to criticize the left-wing orthodox view that men can become women and vice versa. Just as the assuredly liberal-but-not-liberal-enough bar owner was accused of killing disabled people, those holding Kirk’s view are said to support the “genocide of transgender people,” when the only ones “genociding” transgender people are themselves — with suicide rates rivaling only people with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. And the people actually trying to help are the ones refusing to affirm their delusions.
We can — and should — laugh at this leftist meltdown, but at the end of the day, we have to share a society with these people. The same people who justify, incite, and carry out violence against anyone who disagrees with them. While some liberals are crying about the mandate being dropped, the controversy has unmasked a troubling reality: No matter how far to the Left you are, there is no grace for falling out of line. Even one day a week.
