Washington Examiner chief political correspondent Byron York criticized Kamala Harris for campaigning with Michigan Senate candidate Abdul el Sayed, saying Democrats don’t want her as a candidate.
“She’s doing all the things that a candidate might do, she’s written a book, she’s got a book tour, she’s supporting candidates in elections,” York said on Fox News’s Fox and Friends Tuesday.
Harris traveled to Michigan on Tuesday to appear with el Sayed during a black maternal health roundtable.
York highlighted the controversies surrounding el Sayed, including his connection to left-wing Twitch streamer Hasan Piker.
El Sayed has been ignoring his ties to Piker, dismissing any inquiries from the press regarding their association. Piker’s antisemitic views, including saying Jews are “inbreds,” and that America “deserved 9/11,” have raised major red flags among the public.
“I think she’s aligning with him [el Sayed] because she supports him,” York said.
A new ad for Mike Rogers, the GOP nominee running against el Sayed in the Senate race, showcases the story of a father of a Flight 93 victim, who highlighted el Sayed’s ties to Piker and his comments about 9/11.
“When I hear anyone suggest America deserved 9/11, my question is, who would say that?” the father of Todd Beamer said.
The video then cuts to a clip of Piker saying, “America deserved 9/11.”
“Michigan should reject the total disrespect for 9/11 heroes and victims. As Todd Beamer said, ‘Let’s roll.’ Vote for Mike Rogers,” the video’s caption said.
York said Harris’s connection to el Sayed implies how she may also view Piker.
“My guess is she’s entirely compatible with the platform of Abdul el Sayed,” York said.
York maintained that Harris’s decision to publicly align with el Sayed may not resonate with voters anyway, since she previously lost the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump.
“There’s one thing to remember: Democrats do not want to renominate a losing, failed, previous nominee,” York said.
