The White House is encouraging people to download its app to watch livestreams after members of the media pool announced a boycott in solidarity with banned outlets.
“Get real-time updates and live events streamed DIRECTLY to your phone,” the White House wrote on X. “No noise. Just the news that matters most – straight from the Trump Administration.”
Major television networks such as ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox News said they won’t provide coverage of President Donald Trump after he banned CNN from the White House on Friday. CNN was part of the White House TV press pool set to cover the president ahead of the U.N. General Assembly in New York. White House credentials were also revoked for journalists at MS Now and Politico.
In a joint statement, the TV networks wrote: “The public has a vital interest in receiving accurate, independent information about its government. No administration should restrict a news organization because it objects to its reporting.”
In an email obtained by the Washington Post, Fox News Washington bureau chief and TV pool chairman Bryan Boughton said the networks won’t find a substitute for CNN’s pool coverage.
“There will be no replacement pool put in place,” Boughton said in an email to the networks. “All other pool coverage will continue as normal, including Congress, VIPs, and selected events in Washington and around the country.”

CNN, MS Now, and Politico have announced plans to sue the Trump administration after having their access revoked, saying “the government does not decide what the press reports or publishes.”
The White House announced the launch of its app back in March.
