President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he is forming an “AI Force” and will soon name an artificial intelligence “czar” to lead the effort.
Trump made the announcement in a lengthy Truth Social post, casting the initiative as an effort to protect the rapidly growing AI industry while preventing what he described as attempts to restrict or “destroy” the technology.
“For this purpose, I am forming the AI Force, much like I did Space Force, which has been a tremendous SUCCESS, in my First Term,” Trump wrote. “To that end, I will be announcing, in the near future, the AI ‘Czar’ — Only High I.Q. individuals need apply!”
Trump said the administration would seek to encourage the development of artificial intelligence while using existing criminal and civil laws to address abuses.
“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible Industry,” Trump wrote. “Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows!”
He also described AI as the “next Industrial Revolution, or Internet,” and said it could eventually account for as much as 25% of the U.S. economy. Trump said the United States is currently leading China and other countries in AI and that he intends to maintain that position.
The announcement comes as concerns over the risks of increasingly capable AI systems have increased among researchers, technology executives, and lawmakers.
Jacob Coxon, a former researcher at Anthropic and OpenAI, publicly resigned from Anthropic recently, warning that the industry was “racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives.”
Coxon’s resignation was followed by calls from prominent AI executives to slow the pace of frontier AI development. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has urged companies to “pace the frontier,” arguing that AI capabilities are advancing rapidly enough that safeguards could struggle to keep up. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and SpaceXAI CEO Elon Musk both endorsed the idea.
The debate has also reached Capitol Hill. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) are among many lawmakers who have introduced AI-related legislation. Their sweeping measure, announced earlier this month, would permanently ban the development and deployment of artificial superintelligence and temporarily pause advanced AI development until federal safety rules are established.

Trump, meanwhile, has continued to emphasize maintaining U.S. leadership in AI. His announcement Saturday did not provide details about the proposed structure of the AI Force, its authorities, or the responsibilities of the future AI czar.
Trump has previously described those warning about AI taking over the world as a “HOAX” and described efforts to impose additional guardrails as part of a “SICK conspiracy.”
