DOJ pledges $300 million to hire law enforcement targeting ‘criminal aliens’

.

The Department of Justice is offering a combined $300 million to ramp up prosecutions of “criminal aliens.”

State and local agencies can apply for funding by Sept. 23 to give their employees full-time or part-time jobs within the DOJ’s National Fraud Enforcement Division or Criminal Division, according to a notice from the department. The DOJ says it is looking for special prosecutors, investigators, analysts, forensic accountants, and other staff to take action against “fraud and other crimes committed by aliens within the United States.” The special employees may also assist in punishing drug or human trafficking crimes, as well as gang activity.

Applicants can also request 20% additional funds for “critical personnel across the full continuum of criminal justice operations” and for “equipment and advanced technology” used to track immigrant criminals, according to the DOJ notice. Agencies receiving the funds will be required to “submit regular performance reports” indicating their progress in achieving the $300 million program’s goals, a DOJ bulletin said.

The DOJ tied the funding opportunity to a larger project called the Bridging Immigration-Related Deficits Experienced Nationwide Program, or “BIDEN.” The initiative is meant to compensate states for the effects of historic border crossings under former President Joe Biden, the Washington Examiner previously reported. Trump authorized the “BIDEN” program by signing the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in July 2025.

Trump established the DOJ fraud division in January, making it part of his “Task Force to Eliminate Fraud,” which he launched in March with Vice President JD Vance as chairman.

Vance’s task force has focused on more than just immigrant crime. The vice president referred sex-change clinics to the DOJ to consider prosecutions in August over a Department of Health and Human Services report that alleged possible medical fraud.

The task force has already cracked down on billion-dollar amounts of possible fraud, officials said Monday.

“If you screwed the American taxpayer, the federal government is now going to say you’re cut off, no more,” Vance said.
