Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is holding a press conference Tuesday ahead of an expected surge in travel for Memorial Day weekend.
Travel this weekend is expected to hit pre-pandemic levels, and the press conference is scheduled to start at 11:15 a.m., according to PBS.

Travel for the holiday weekend will be up 7% this year compared to 2022. The increase equates to 2.7 million more travelers, and those travelers will contribute to an expected total of 42.3 million Americans traveling 50 miles or more from home this weekend, according to AAA.
“This is expected to be the third busiest Memorial Day weekend since 2000, when AAA started tracking holiday travel,” said Paula Twidale, senior vice president of AAA Travel.

Almost 3.4 million people are expected to fly to their destinations this Memorial Day. That’s up 11% from last year, according to AAA.
