Fox News beat two of its cable news competitors in overall views during President Donald Trump’s speech on the Republican midterm convention‘s opening night on Wednesday.
The network averaged 2.5 million total viewers and 229,000 viewers in the 25-54 age demographic throughout the nearly two-hour speech, according to the preliminary cable ratings from Nielsen Media Research. The conservative outlet peaked at 2.8 million total viewers at 9:45 p.m. Wednesday.
During primetime, Fox News drew 2.3 million total viewers and 212,000 viewers between the ages of 25 and 54. And during the 9 p.m. hour, it drew 65% of the cable news share.
By contrast, the competition couldn’t surpass 2 million viewers. CNN saw some 489,000 viewers between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m., and MS NOW reached its height at about 1.1 million viewers in that same hour. Those were the highest view counts the respective channels got.

Fox News’s high ratings also bested its viewership during the full month of August. Last month, the number of overall viewers and those between 25 and 54 years old were 22% lower than the viewership figures between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. Wednesday.
Trump will deliver the midterm convention’s closing remarks for 15 minutes, starting around 9:37 p.m. Thursday. His speech will directly follow Vice President JD Vance‘s.
