DALLAS — Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) warned on Wednesday that a “red-green” alliance between Islamists and communists was taking over the Democratic Party.
Cruz made the remarks while addressing the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention in Dallas, Texas. During his remarks, Cruz said the 2026 midterm elections were a “rendezvous with destiny” for the United States.
“We are witnessing a new and dangerous red-green alliance: communists and Islamists coming together and sweeping over the Democrat Party,” Cruz said. “They are united because they share the same enemies. They hate Christians. They hate Jews. They hate capitalism. They hate the Constitution, and they hate America.”
The Texas senator singled out New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, one of the most popular socialists in the nation, as an example of the red-green alliance. Cruz’s comments came just one day before the nation marks the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
“And on 9/11, could anyone have imagined that Comrade Mondami would be the mayor of New York?” Cruz asked. “The hate that killed Charlie Kirk, that knocked down the twin towers, that led to two assassination attempts on President Trump. It just keeps getting worse and worse.”
Cruz also singled out other popular progressives on the Left, including the streamer Hassan Piker, Michigan Senate nominee Abdul el Sayed, and Texas Senate nominee James Talarico, as other symptoms of the Democrats’ struggles.
“A simple truth: When people tell you who they are, believe them,” Cruz said. “When Hassan Piker says America deserved 9/11, believe him. When Mandami says he wants to seize the means of production, he means it. When Abdul el Sayed says he has an ‘obligation to comply with Sharia law,’ he means it.”
“And when James Talarico says he wants to dismantle capitalism. He means this,” he continued.

Socialists and progressives have succeeded in unseating several Democratic incumbents during this election cycle’s primary season, which Cruz noted in his remarks.
“Now understand, not every Democrat in the House and Senate believes this, but they are all afraid of these radicals because that’s where the money and the energy and the young people are in the Democrat Party,” he said.
