Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) launched a website on Thursday aimed at defending his character against what he calls lies from his opponent, former Democratic Alaska Rep. Mary Peltola.
“Elections should be about your record, your vision, and, of course, the truth,” Sullivan said on Thursday. “My opponent has no record — zero bills signed into law in two terms — and the vision for her and her liberal allies for Alaska is not to help Alaska, but to target Alaska, to shut us down. So what do they do? When you don’t have a record, when you don’t have a vision: they resort to slander, they resort to lies.”
Sullivan launched the website “PeltolaLies.com” to highlight specific claims Peltola has made about Sullivan and show them to be false. There are 10 “lies” listed on the website, followed by rebuttals from Sullivan and links to a fact-checking website showing her claims as false and misleading.
Sullivan, a two-term incumbent, is running to defend his seat in the upper chamber against Peltola, one of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) prized Democratic recruits for the 2026 midterm elections.
On his newly launched website, Sullivan points to claims Peltola has made, such as that he “violated insider trading laws” and “cast the deciding vote to keep the Epstein files hidden.” The website bashes her claims as false, saying Sullivan has “always followed the highest requirements under Senate Ethics rules” and “voted in support of the Epstein Files Transparency Act.”
“After Sullivan’s parents died, he and his siblings received some individual stocks, which were almost immediately sold by third-party advisers acting independently and without Sullivan’s knowledge,” the website explains, regarding the insider trading claim. “As soon as Sullivan learned about the sales, he immediately filed the required Senate administrative disclosure forms. There were no penalties or charges assessed. There was no insider trading.”
Peltola’s campaign rejected Sullivan’s accusations that the Democratic candidate has been lying to voters.
“Dan Sullivan and his Lower 48 backers are terrified of Mary’s on the ground momentum and will do anything to distract from Sullivan’s record of selling out to special interests and leaving Alaskans behind,” a campaign spokesperson for Peltola said. “Alaskans know the truth about Sullivan’s record and will hold him accountable this November.”
Sullivan and Peltola advanced to the general election ballot from the open primary alongside Republican Dan J. Sullivan Jr. (a retired teacher with no relation to Sen. Sullivan) and Democrat David Leslie. However, Leslie withdrew, moving Republican Gerald Heikes up to the ballot and making Peltola the only Democrat in the running.
Peltola had finished first in the open primary with 49.5% of the vote. Sen. Sullivan finished second with 41.4% of the vote, while Sullivan Jr. finished third with 2.5%. There were seven GOP candidates running in the open primary, compared to only three Democratic candidates.
The polls remain tight, within a single-digit margin between Sen. Sullivan and Peltola, with the Democrat leading in most available polling. Cook Political Report lists the race as a toss-up.
