Those who wish to breezily dismiss or ridicule the left-wing Democratic Socialists of America amid the organization’s ongoing hostile takeover efforts against the Democratic Party do so at their peril. Yes, these radicals open themselves up to mockery and often earn amusing monikers like Sen. John Kennedy’s (R-LA) recent instant classic, “Lulu Lenin.”
And yes, it’s fair game to highlight the cartoonish hypocrisy of their deadbeat “elites,” such as one limousine-commie failson who’s been exposed for allegedly lying about his own union membership. He apparently got the boot from his apprenticeship for chronic truancy while using non-union labor to renovate the seven-figure property his wealthy parents gifted him.
In the process, it seems, he failed to secure the proper permits and also didn’t pay the rent he owed on the apartment he occupied while awaiting completion of the work on his expensive townhouse. What a guy.
These people deserve to be punchlines, and humor can be a very effective political weapon. Nevertheless, it’s a mistake to just point and laugh at them as unserious buffoons who aren’t achieving anything.
They are actually achieving a great deal, getting several of their fellow travelers elected to very powerful positions in “progressive” cities and winning high-profile nomination fights in Democratic primaries as they seek to gut the political party whose carcass they intend to use as a vessel to accumulate even more power.
Many of them try to downplay their candidates’ publicly expressed extremism by hand-waving away “old social media posts” from “years ago.” This deliberately obscures the point that these posts were generally published by grown adults expressing their true beliefs. And we’re instructed to treat the period from roughly 2020 through 2024 as magically out-of-bounds years that “don’t count” in assessing someone’s worldview or fitness for office, for reasons that are never explained.
Make no mistake, however: These are hardcore, wild-eyed zealots. They want to uproot the American governmental and economic systems and remake them in their own disastrous image.
Many of them embrace not only the defunding of police, the elimination of prisons, and the erasure of borders, but the abolition of the U.S. Senate, the Electoral College, and the Supreme Court. Opposing such institutional destruction, they’ll claim, is “fascism.”
Some of their leaders don’t even pretend this seizure of power will be achieved or maintained through peaceful political means. Violent coercion is, after all, a grotesque hallmark of socialism and communism.
During a publicly streamed conversation about the future of American politics featuring the Hasan Piker wing of the Left, one speaker — a well-known figure in those circles boasting a substantial following — said the goal of this movement is to “rip out” the Democratic Party as it exists, allowing the radicals to “start to grab hold of the ship of state and steer it our direction.” He tacked on an addendum: “But it’s going to be a violent process.”
He didn’t mean that literally, they’ll insist. Perhaps, perhaps not. But it’s worth considering the promotion and celebration of violence that have become commonplace in those circles.
The aforementioned Mr. Piker has reveled in explicitly violent rhetoric, as we’ve explored previously. Among various examples, he has ranted about the hypothetical murder of a U.S. senator and seethed about slaughtering landlords. “Kill those motherf***ers. Murder those motherf***ers in the street. Let the streets soak in their f***ing red capitalist blood, dude,” he said.
Years ago, while railing against conservative activist Charlie Kirk, Piker smirked, “I want to f*cking kill him, dude.” Overwhelming evidence shows that a different radicalized leftist beat him to it, shooting Kirk in the neck during a public appearance last September.
At a recent DSA-style gathering in Seattle, Piker mockingly performed a tribute song written after Kirk’s brutal murder, much to the delight of the far-left crowd. In a sickening display of depravity, Piker sang the Kirk-inspired lyrics, “he lived for Jesus,” drawing loud jeers from the audience. The next line: “Unafraid to die.” The hall erupted in ghoulish cheering.
Soulless, murder-loving, blood-curdling stuff. This man is one of the top influencers and campaign surrogates on the modern Left. He’s been embraced on the campaign trail by numerous DSA-aligned candidates across the country and welcomed into the fold by supposedly mainstream organizations such as College Democrats and the Obama podcasting bros.
For good measure, Piker is also currently under fire for blaming Jews themselves for antisemitism. In a half-hearted attempt to walk back his infamous “America deserved 9/11” spasm, Piker recently claimed he believes the opposite, triggering loud boos from his audience.
He believes what they also do: that our country deserved the jihadist terrorist attack that murdered nearly 3,000 innocents. This is one of their foremost “thought” leaders, to use the term very loosely.
The DSA just published a glowing statement commemorating what would have been Fidel Castro’s 100th birthday, lavishing praise on the late communist dictator while denouncing the United States. One of their leading comrades defended the move in a fiery interview hosted by a television anchor whose family fled the repressive Cuban regime.
In a separate interview, yet another top DSA official refused to acknowledge that communist dictatorships are, in fact, dictatorships — going so far as to assert that “Cubans have access to democracy in a way [Americans] do not.” She compared America’s system unfavorably to … Cuba’s.
HASAN PIKER DARES DEMOCRATS TO DEFEND HIM
When they say, as they often do, that “democratic socialism” shouldn’t be conflated with the vicious totalitarianism of its communist cousin, which is responsible for more than 100 million deaths, bear these realities in mind.
They can’t go full totalitarian yet, but it’s intrinsic to the evil worldview they possess and are toiling to impose on America — through elections, at first. Then, through other means. “It’s going to be a violent process” ought to be a warning.
