Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico likes to posture as a Christian pastor. In reality, he is nothing more than a toxic progressive who will happily fuel racial divisions to mobilize the voters he thinks he needs to grab power.
The trial of Karmelo Anthony was fairly straightforward. The Texas teenager stabbed and murdered another high schooler, Austin Metcalf. Witnesses testified that Anthony, who brought a knife to a high school track meet, was the aggressor, and Anthony was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to a maximum of 35 years.

But Anthony is black and Metcalf was white, and thus left-wing racial arsonists decided that this was proof of systemic racism. Talarico has decided to join those racial arsonists, saying the following in an interview this month: “Right now we’ve got a system that doesn’t serve all Americans equally, and, and we know that black Texans have been, um, have not gotten the justice they deserve.” He also said that “I’m not an expert on this particular case, but I know that there were no black members of the jury, and to me, that’s the only evidence you need to really prove that this system is not working for black Texans.”
Talarico is asking you to believe the following:
- He is somehow the only Democrat who is not terminally online and is thus unfamiliar with the details of this high-profile murder case that took place in his own state.
- That everyone on the jury was racist, including the other non-black minorities who served on the jury in this case.
- That the only evidence you need that the judicial system is racist is that there was not a black person on this jury, because a black person would change the perspective of the jury on this clear-cut murder case.
What Talarico is trying to do is to pander to black, left-wing, activist Democrats in Texas, the kind of highly motivated voters he is relying on to turn out in high numbers and overcome Texas’s Republican lean. But what he is also doing is playing directly into the narrative by race-baiting pundits and former politicians that the white high schooler who was murdered must have been the aggressor, and that the black high schooler who murdered him was the poor victim. They make that claim in defiance of all evidence, based solely on the skin color of the murderer and the victim, and Talarico is endorsing it by playing along with the narrative.

Talarico is playing the role of a mild-mannered Christian who happens to be a progressive. What he actually is, though, is a generic toxic progressive who seeks power by fueling racial hatred and division. Talarico adds the twist of performing a weak Christian impression so that he can try to dupe less politically involved Texas voters and sanctimoniously shame Republican politicians for being un-Christian.
All the while, Talarico refuses to tell his supporters hard truths, playing into their worst impulses to help spread racial hatred among his fellow man. In politics, it is difficult to get more un-Christian than that.
