The Democratic Party is in the midst of nominating as many racists and antisemites as it can find. As such, any of those candidates losing provides a nice respite from the bleak headlines about the hateful candidates who win. The former group includes former Rep. Cori Bush.
Rep. Wesley Bell handily defeated Bush in the Democratic primary for Missouri’s 1st District, denying Bush a return to Congress after Bell knocked her out during the 2024 election cycle. Bush had served in Congress as a far-left race hustler, a relic of the Black Lives Matter era of politics, but she decided to embrace the antisemitic socialism that is taking over the Democratic Party. Bush spent the campaign ranting and raving about AIPAC and ducking debates with Bell.

Bell crushing Bush in this rematch should be enough to finally end her political career, punting her back to her role as an activist or as one of many election losers who find their way into liberal media contributor deals. It could not be more welcome news. Bush peddled the lies of both the Black Lives Matter movement (that police officers are racist and rampantly shooting black men) and the pro-Palestine movement (that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza), purposefully spreading racial resentment and antisemitism to empower her left-wing agenda.
Bush’s hate-filled rhetoric was compounded by the fact that she thought that she was better and more important than normal people. Bush wanted to defund police departments, leaving people vulnerable to criminals, while she used her personal wealth to pay for hundreds of thousands worth of private security for herself. Her response to anyone who noticed her “security for me, none for thee” attitude: “Suck it up.” (Bush then married one of her security guards and continued to steer thousands of dollars to him, which invited a federal investigation.)

Bush made a career off racism and inciting racial divisions, asserting that any black person who disagreed with her was a “prop,” as she did with Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL). Bush said that police are trained to kill black people. Bush knew that her rise to prominence came from the passion of an activist base driven by constant hatred and alarmism, and she embraced it wholeheartedly.
In a functioning society, someone like Cori Bush would never even come close to making it to Congress. While Democrats continue to elect people like Bush (as they did with Abdul el Sayed in Michigan’s Senate race), Bush herself losing her seat in 2024 and falling flat on her face in her attempt to reclaim it this year is a needed bright spot. We can only hope that we will never see Bush again outside of her inevitable appearances as a panelist on MS Now.
