President Donald Trump blasted Democrat Abdul el Sayed after he clinched victory in the Michigan Senate Democratic primary on Wednesday morning.
“El-Sayed, a Communist loser who hates Jews and Israel, is the projected winner in his race with the Socialist,” Trump posted to Truth Social shortly after the Associated Press called the race.
An unabashed progressive, el Sayed is already on the receiving end of accusations from the GOP as an anti-Israel Democrat due to his belief that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) was the Democratic establishment candidate backed by pro-Israel groups.
Despite an endorsement from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Stevens trailed el Sayed 47.5% to 48.5% with 99% of the expected vote counted.
Trump also touted Democrat el Sayed’s win as a boon to the GOP’s efforts to keep control of the Senate during the November elections.
“Great news for the Republican Party,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday.
He also took the opportunity to criticize the polling, which showed el Sayed with a massive lead in the closing days of the primary — something Trump has often done throughout his political career.
“As usual, the Polls were way off on this one,” Trump also wrote about Stevens. “She was not expected to do nearly as well as she did. Now, the Dumocrats crazy policies will only get worse!”

Trump’s comments against el Sayed echo his past attacks against now-New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, whom he also branded as a communist.
The open Senate seat in Michigan will be one of the marquee races this cycle as el Sayed faces off against Republican Mike Rogers.
