Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) criticized socialists for doing “dangerous things” to the Democratic Party, and called out New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
“You know, he’s [Mamdani] a clown,” Fetterman said on CNBC’s Squawk Box Tuesday.
“These are crazy people. And now they are electing people across our country, ya know, Colorado, even in my own state, definitely in New York City right now.”
Fetterman slammed the Democratic Socialists of America for some of its policies. Its new platform, called “Workers Deserve More,” was released on July 14.
It includes eliminating the U.S. Senate, granting amnesty for all immigrants, defunding the Department of War, and replacing the Electoral College with a national popular vote for president.
“If we lived in a classless society and governed ourselves, we could freely build a world without war or poverty. We could build a world where no one suffers for their race, gender, or religion, and everyone is free, equal, and cared for. Building this world is the guiding star of our movement,” the platform said.
“Some of those people, like Mamdani, are doing dangerous things,” Fetterman said.
“And now, he’s [Mamdani] putting the list of people that owns homes in New York, ya know, don’t put people on lists. They haven’t done anything wrong,” Fetterman said.
Mamdani published a database of wealthy city property owners, complete with names and addresses. The city’s Department of Finance released the database, saying it was required by state law to do so. These homes are all subject to a pied-à-terre tax, or a tax on second homes, according to Fox News.
“Right now, this is a serious game that we’re engaging in,” Fetterman said.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has also become a leading voice for the DSA in reducing economic inequality and increasing taxes on the wealthy.
Part of the DSA’s agenda includes housing for all.
“Social housing must expropriate property from capitalists and deliver it to the working class, through which it may be sustained and rejuvenated. Capitalism requires the private ownership of land, upon which the very possibility of surplus value extraction is based,” according to a statement on social housing from the DSA.

“It’s incumbent on us, Republican and Democrat side, to police your own ranks,” Fetterman said.
“Stop this now, call it out. And that’s what I’m willing to do as a committed Democrat. So I think that’s pretty reasonable, and I think it’s more necessary if more people were willing to do that.”
