The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was shot at their house Sunday night, according to reports.
Mia Bieniemy, 57, is being treated for serious injuries, according to ESPN. Authorities did not disclose the woman’s identity.
Police in Loudoun County, Virginia, arrived on the scene at 7:32 p.m. Sunday, per the flagship sports outlet. The team said it was “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family.”
Eric Bieniemy was training the football team in Missouri when the incident unfolded. He previously worked for the Washington Commanders before rejoining the Chiefs this year.
The shooting may have been committed by the couple’s son, Elijah Bieniemy, according to sports journalist Arye Pulli. The younger Bieniemy was reportedly charged with use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, malicious wounding, and discharging a firearm within a building.
It remains unconfirmed if he was the perpetrator.
