Trump threatens ‘100% tariff’ on European countries that implement new digital services tax

.

President Donald Trump threatened European countries on Friday, warning them not to implement a new digital services tax or risk a “100% tariff” on all their exports to the United States.

The president had signaled during his tariff war last year that he viewed DSTs as one of the most unfair trade practices brought against American companies, but Trump’s position hasn’t stopped certain members of the European Parliament from discussing the taxes for future implementation.

“Numerous European Countries have been discussing the imminent implementation of a Digital Services Tax on American Companies. Some of these Countries are close to actually doing this,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Friday afternoon.

“Please let this statement serve to represent that any Country that imposes such a Tax will immediately be met with a 100% TARIFF on any and all Goods sent to the United States of America,” he continued. “This TARIFF will supersede Trade Deals made with the Country, whether implemented, signed, or not. Additionally, the 100% TARIFF will be immediately imposed, if they proceed.”

Trump’s global “Liberation Day” tariff schedule was overturned by the Supreme Court earlier this year, scrambling the president’s trade agenda. In the ensuing months, the White House has fast-tracked a “Plan B” tariff solution to be implemented across each American trading partner.

White House officials suggested to the Washington Examiner that a tariff responded to European DST’s would be filed under Section 301 of the Trade Act.
