What to know about Trump’s Great American State Fair kick-off rally

.

President Donald Trump is set to hold a rally on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday to kick off the District’s Independence Day celebrations and the Great American State Fair.

The rally is slated to begin at 7 p.m. near the Washington Monument. The campaign-style rally will feature a military flyover by stealth bombers, military bands, and award-winning country music singer Lee Greenwood.

“Fantastic Music!!! MAGA!!! FUN!!! Be there at 7:00 P.M,” Trump boasted on Truth Social on Wednesday morning.

The rally is designed to kick off the country’s semiquincentennial commemorations of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.

Trump touted the event as the “Rally to end all Rallies,” and it will include a performance by country singer Alexis Wilkins, the girlfriend of FBI Director Kash Patel.

The rally is also expected to disrupt the District’s public transportation network. Metro officials announced Wednesday that they would close an entrance to the Smithsonian station, a key access point for the National Mall and surrounding attractions.

“At the request of the [Secret Service], we will be closing Smithsonian station’s National Mall side entrance today from 2:30pm to 10:30pm in support of presidential activities,” they said in a statement on X, adding that the 12th St & Independence Ave entrance would remain open.

The rally was announced shortly after several musicians who were slated to play throughout the 250th birthday festivities canceled their performances, citing political concerns. The performers included Young MC, Martina McBride, and the Commodores.

“I am thinking about bringing the Number One Attraction anywhere in the World, the man who gets much larger audiences than Elvis in his prime, and he does so without a guitar, the man who loves our Country more than anyone else, and the man who some say is the Greatest President in History,” Trump posted on social media about his rally plan.

The Great American State Fair will run from Thursday through July 10. Almost all states will be represented in the fair, with the exception of several blue states, including Oregon, Washington, North Carolina, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Illinois.
