Vance: Foiled UFC 250 attack shows dangers of escalating political rhetoric

.

Vice President JD Vance criticized the Left and Democrats for what he called “political violence” and “dangerous rhetoric” after the FBI thwarted a drone attack plot targeting UFC’s Freedom 250 event.

“We’ve got to tell everybody to tone it down, and I hate to say this, but it’s true: You see more political violence and violent rhetoric coming from the Left than the Right these days,” Vance said on Fox News’s Fox & Friends Tuesday.

The FBI stopped a planned drone attack for Sunday’s historic UFC fight on the White House South Lawn.

The FBI learned of the plot on Wednesday and arrested five people in connection with the attempted attack.

“This is what happens when people turn the rhetoric up so loud that disagreeing with somebody is a cause for violence,” Vance said.

Vance praised the efforts of the FBI and law enforcement for keeping everyone safe but said, “Everybody has a role to cut this stuff out.”

“I think a lot of my Democratic colleagues in Washington have got to look themselves in the mirror and say, ‘Why is so much of this political violence coming from our side of the spectrum?’ Maybe they can do something different.”

Vance noted the concern over the stakes of the attack. He acknowledged that officials and other Cabinet members are attacked often, but an attack targeting supporters and guests of the event takes it to another level.

“This could have been a very terrible tragedy, but it goes to show why we have so much appreciation for the guys who keep us safe,” Vance said.

“They don’t get the credit for the attacks they prevent. They only get the blame for the attacks that actually happen.”
