Greenville mall shooting leaves two hospitalized and several people detained

Two people were hospitalized Saturday after a shooting at a shopping mall in Greenville, South Carolina, authorities said.

The Greenville Police Department said two victims were transported to a local hospital and that several individuals have been detained as officers continue investigating the incident which took place at Greenville’s Haywood Mall, according to Fox Carolina News.

According to police, preliminary information suggests the shooting stemmed from a dispute and was not a random act of violence. Law enforcement officers are working with the Greenville Country’s Sheriff’s Office to clear the mall and ensure there are no additional threats.

Authorities said no further shots have been fired since officers arrived at the scene.

Authorities have not released information on the victims’ conditions, the identities of those detained, or whether any charges have been filed as the investigation remains ongoing.

Greenville City Fire Chief of Administration Tristan Johnson said that the public is asked to avoid the mall while law enforcement works.
