President Donald Trump called for the expulsion of Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) from Congress on Thursday night, claiming that there is a known plot by the Democratic congressman to engage in impeachment proceedings should the Democrats win control of the House of Representatives in November. Trump referenced a social media post by political commentator Mark Levin accusing Raskin of being part of the impeachment scheme. Trump suggested Congress should “expel the bum.”
“Jamie Raskin, a Loser in Life, who worked endlessly during my First Term to impeach me, and failed miserably, wasting the Country’s money, time, and effort, will guaranteed be trying to do it again, despite one of the most successful Presidencies in History,” Trump said in a post to his Truth Social account.
In his post, Trump referenced other Democrats who tried to impeach him, including Rep. Al Green (D-TX), before mocking him for losing in his Democratic primary election. He then called for accountability on such political tactics and weaponization of impeachment threats, saying it hurts the country when it happens, and saying those who launch these impeachment proceedings suffer from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
“Something should be done about people like this who do bad things, but always come up on the short end because of their illegal or unscrupulous behavior, and hurt our Country in the process,” Trump said. “I agree with Mark Levin when he says to, EXPEL THE BUM. Congress can never be great with people like this, who suffer massively from Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), casting their vote of HATE!”
In Levin’s post that Trump mentioned, the political commentator warned of Raskin’s alleged activities planning a future impeachment for Trump. He blasted the congressman for his past efforts and schemes and urged Congress to expel him. Levin cited a specific provision of the Constitution that would allow Raskin to be expelled for his alleged scheming and plotting, according to Levin.
“Jamie Raskin is already leading a plot to impeach the President if Democrats take the House,” Levin said in his post. “He led the prior two impeachments against the President, has pushed for his resignation in the past, also was involved in twisting the 14th Amendment to ban candidate Trump for ballots, objected to electoral college votes for Trump in the first election, and was a member of the Pelosi January 6 Committee that, among other things, destroyed records before the GOP took over the House.”
CALIFORNIA REPUBLICAN PUSHES HOUSE RESOLUTION TO ERASE TRUMP IMPEACHMENTS
“Under Article I, Section 5, Clause 2 of the Constitution, each House of Congress may “punish its Members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two-thirds, expel a member.”
It would be a challenging feat to get “two-thirds” to agree with expelling Raskin, a reality that Levin acknowledged in his post. But said that shouldn’t matter, as Democrats don’t worry about the “two-thirds” number when launching impeachments, knowing it is unlikely that that many would proceed to formally impeach Trump in the Senate.
Levin’s assessment of Raskin might have some credibility. In comments to MS NOW in May, without specifying, Raskin alleged that “Trump corruption” was a “civic emergency,” stressing the importance of investigating the “corruption” and exposing it.
“We need to go directly after that corruption, to expose it, and to do whatever we can to stop it as quickly as possible,” said Raskin.
