Globally, the tide has turned against sex changes for children, with multiple countries rolling back such policies. Even New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani can’t bring himself to transition children at his new taxpayer-funded gender clinic.
City health officials under Mamdani are planning to open a “gender-affirming care clinic.” This state-run facility will use taxpayer money to encourage people to reject their actual gender and start them on the irreversible journey of cross-sex hormones and permanent surgical alterations. According to City Health Commissioner Alister Martin, this is a grand step for transgender progress, “one of the first times that the public health department has ever taken that step.”

Still, though, the clinic will not provide such services to minors. According to city health officials, the clinic will be providing “gender affirming hormone therapy to adults 19 years of age and older.” This comes after two of the city’s biggest health networks, NYU Langone Health and the Mount Sinai Hospital System, have both shut down their transgender services for minors.
To be clear, this is not some enlightened move from Mamdani. He even openly admits that the reason this clinic will not be offering “gender-affirming care” is because he is worried about legal consequences from the Trump administration. If a Democrat takes the White House in the 2028 elections, you can bet that Mamdani will ensure that his new taxpayer-funded clinic will be allowed to tell children to reject their bodies and embrace becoming transgender.

For now, this is a victory. Even the socialist mayor of a city that is about 67% Democratic, in a state that is run by Democrats, has been scared into temporary surrender on the issue of “transgender children.” This will save who knows how many children from being pushed into permanent procedures that will forever alter their lives based on nothing but gender ideology and the typical body dysmorphia that children face while aging.
But Mamdani, and the transgender movement, are biding their time. A new Democratic president will oversee the nationwide reembrace of these destructive policies and ruin the lives of children who would otherwise grow out of their dysmorphia. It is imperative that Republicans move the ball forward with legislation and executive action, so that a future Democratic President Gavin Newsom cannot wave a magic wand and erase the progress we’ve made on this issue, the progress that has made even Mamdani hesitant to challenge it.
