Former Republican Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene slammed President Donald Trump, saying, “He’s the real traitor,” regarding his handling of the Epstein files.
“We should consider them traitors,” Greene told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins on The Source with Kaitlan Collins on Wednesday. “They’re traitors, the ones that refuse to release the Epstein files, want to cover up for pedophiles and rapists and all sorts of disgusting things in these files. Those are the traitors to the American people, and they should be ashamed of themselves.”
The public fallout between Trump and Greene, once a staunch ally of the president, began after Greene expressed support for the release of the Epstein files. Their fallout has extended into several online fights with Trump referring to her as “wacky” and a “Traitor to our Country.”
After the passage of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, the Department of Justice released the 3.5-million-page document, covering a wide range of investigative records and representing only a portion of the broader collection. Trump, who had yearslong social and professional relationship with Epstein that began in the 1980s and extended into the 2000s, was mentioned in the files.
“What is remarkable to me is that this administration, people that we voted for, demanding transparency, the man that campaigned all over the country, claiming that he would be the one to drain the swamp, is the very man that fought to keep the Epstein files from being released,” Greene said.
Greene recalled a conversation she had with Trump, saying, “He told me on the phone that his friends would get hurt, and that’s why he’s against releasing the Epstein files, and I think we’ve seen a lot of that dribble out, so yeah, that matches.”
Greene also noted the scrutiny she faced in her efforts to have the files released, saying, “And then he, in turn, called me the traitor because I fought to release the Epstein files.”
MTG DISMISSES TRUMP CALLING HER A TRAITOR: ‘LET ME TELL YOU WHAT A TRAITOR IS’
Because of her fallout with Trump, speculation grew that she was becoming a Democrat, which she adamantly dismissed.
“Many people have turned and said, ‘Oh, she’s a Democrat now.’ I’m not a Democrat; nothing has changed about my views. I’m unapologetically America first,” Greene said.
“I’ve taken off the team party jerseys. I don’t want anything to do with any of them. It’s been shocking to people — people that voted for Donald Trump, people that voted Republican — that they would actually follow through to try to cover up the Epstein files. And that’s the part that everyone can’t even understand,” Greene said.
