Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin is testifying in front of a Senate appropriations subcommittee on Tuesday about his department’s budget request for the upcoming fiscal year.
The Department of Homeland Security is requesting $118.4 billion in overall funding for fiscal 2027, starting Oct. 1, as proposed by the White House. Nearly $23 billion of that money is reserved for Customs and Border Protection, and another $10.5 billion is set aside for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Mullin’s testimony will mark his first appearance on Capitol Hill as the new DHS chief. Before assuming the role, he served in the Senate as an Oklahoma Republican since 2023.
The hearing is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Troy Edgar is also listed as a witness.
