Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha blasted ABC’s The View co-hosts as subscribing to a “blue no matter who” mentality.
Concha’s comments come in response to co-host Sunny Hostin’s comments defending Maine Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner.
Hostin, speaking during the View’s “Hot Topics” segment on Monday, leveled a series of accusations against Platner, saying, “he’s a cheater, he’s an antisemite. The fact that he had that tattoo for 20 years and didn’t know what it was is a lie. So, he’s a liar, a racist, and antisemite.”
While she did criticize him, she also emphasized the stakes of the race, arguing that Democrats need him to win to “bring back a bit of our democracy.”
“I do think one of the only ways is to win that seat in Maine,” Hostin said Monday.
Concha argued that her remarks highlight what he sees as partisan inconsistency in how Democrats evaluate controversial figures and criticized what he described as selective outrage and partisan loyalty.
“Blue, no matter who, if you’re Sunny Hostin, apparently, or Liz Warren or Bernie Sanders, for that matter, who still support Graham Platner as well,” Concha said.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has publicly endorsed Platner in his Senate campaign.
Concha contrasted Hostin’s comments with prior rhetoric aimed at President Donald Trump, saying, “But I don’t want to hear another word out of Sunny Hostin ever again calling President Trump a fascist and a Nazi who must be stopped, only to say that she would vote for a guy, literally with a Nazi tattoo, for the better part of 20 years.”
Concha further elaborated on allegations surrounding Platner’s past, citing claims that he mocked Purple Heart recipient Teddy Daniels, a combat veteran who was shot four times during battle and has a tattoo depicting concentration camp guards.
Concha also concluded that Platner is a fan of communism.
“That’s something that Sunny didn’t bring up, which you know, ain’t a good thing,” he said. “He cheered on Hamas after they killed Israeli soldiers.”
GRAHAM PLATNER NEEDS TRUMP PLAYBOOK TO HANG ON IN MAINE
Concha argued that Platner is unfit for office and criticized Hostin’s broader support for him, saying, “This is not a person who should be in the Senate. He should be in front of every shrink. And if she’s saying, ‘OK, well Democrats have to win midterms,’ she should at least be calling for Graham Platner to step aside.
“Suspend his campaign, get a candidate in there who isn’t a Nazi and who isn’t all these horrible things that she said, but that’s the way The View works at this point. They will support anyone, no matter what, as long as it means defeating Republicans and President Trump’s agenda. That we do know.”
