A White House social media page trolled CNN with photos of the network’s talent with their eyes closed on Tuesday, following a network medical analyst diagnosing President Donald Trump with a sleep disorder.
The account, Rapid Response 47, posted multiple screenshots from CNN broadcasts of anchors, reporters, and analysts with their eyes closed, accusing the on-air talent of being asleep, including Dana Bash, Jake Tapper, and Kate Bolduan.
“Wow! @KateBolduan just fell asleep AGAIN as Fake News CNN was baselessly speculating about President Trump’s health,” the X post said. “Really makes you wonder what these clowns are hiding about their own health.”
Another post called out Brianna Keiler: “BRIANNA KEILAR SAYS NAP WENT ‘PERFECTLY’ AFTER FALLING ASLEEP LIVE ON AIR. RUMOR IS SHE ALSO FAILED HER COGNITIVE EXAM (UNLIKE PRESIDENT TRUMP — WHOSE WAS PERFECT!)”
Earlier in the day, CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner told Bolduan on CNN that he suspects Trump has severe daytime somnolence, otherwise known as hypersomnia or excessive daytime sleepiness. The sleep disorder leads to an overwhelming urge to fall asleep during the day, even when a person is well-rested, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Reiner pointed to instances where Trump appeared to have fallen asleep as a reason to support his diagnosis.
“It’s a real problem, and the president appears to be struggling to stay awake during the day, and I would like to hear what the White House has done to evaluate why the president has this increased daytime somnolence and what they’re doing to improve that,” Reiner said.
While the White House has not directly confirmed that the photos are in response to Reiner’s comments, the posts began after the medical analyst’s appearance on CNN.
Reiner’s comments came ahead of Trump’s annual physical at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday, the president’s third visit this year.
Trump said his medical appointment went “perfectly.”
