Booker tells DNC ‘release the autopsy’ on failed 2024 Harris campaign

.

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) joined the chorus of calls from Democratic Party leaders to release the Democratic National Committee’s analysis of why former Vice President Kamala Harris lost the 2024 presidential election to President Donald Trump.

DNC Chairman Ken Martin decided in late 2025 that he would not be releasing the organization’s autopsy of the party’s 2024 election loss. The decision, which he called a “distraction from the core mission” of the DNC, was a widely unpopular move, especially after he initially promised to make the report public. Harris came out last week with a call to release the report, and Booker backed the same thinking on Sunday.

“Release the autopsy,” Booker said on NBC’s Meet the Press on Sunday morning. He also said the DNC should be mobilizing voters to see a change this election season.

“This is six months before an election,” Booker said. “We need to be mobilizing and organizing in this election. Fine. DNC release it. They should do that. But the most important thing is for people to get out and vote in record numbers.”

Booker, who is up for reelection in 2026 himself, is largely expected to hold his seat as the presumptive Democratic nominee for the seat in blue New Jersey. But the third-term senator has hinted at greater political ambitions.

He said in late March that he is “definitely not ruling out” a 2028 presidential run. When asked if Harris would be the strongest person to represent Democrats again in 2028, Booker said he would like to see a “robust” Democratic primary. Booker previously ran in the 2020 presidential primary against both Harris and former President Joe Biden.

“I think that it was a disservice to Kamala Harris that we did not have a primary in the last election,” Booker said on Sunday. “I hope we have the most robust ’28 primary there is, with a lot of great leaders involved in that primary, so that the Democratic Party can choose who’s going to be their standard bearer.”

The Democratic field is likely shaping up to be just that so far; several Democrats have been floated as White House contenders, including Booker, Harris, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), and Govs. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), Andy Beshear (D-KY), Josh Shapiro (D-PA), and JB Pritzker (D-IL).
