The Los Angeles fires caused some $150 billion in damages and killed at least 12 people. Now, we know that it was likely yet another act of left-wing political violence.
The man arrested and charged with setting the fires that eventually burned down the Palisades is Jonathan Rinderknecht. Now, federal prosecutors are saying that Rinderknecht was overcome by hatred of the rich and was obsessed with Luigi Mangione, the alleged left-wing terrorist accused of killing UnitedHealth CEO Brian Thompson in cold blood. According to prosecutors, Uber passengers driven by Rinderknecht described him as “angry, intense, driving erratically, and ranting about being ‘pissed off at the world’ and Luigi Mangione, capitalism, and vigilantism.”

Combined with Rinderknecht being angry over not having any New Year’s plans, you have the motive behind his alleged arson.
This would surely be a surprise for Democrats and left-wing media, for more than one reason. The Left was so convinced that the fires were the fault of climate change, using the damage to push their climate agenda while ignoring the incompetence of Los Angeles and California Democrats in creating the conditions for the fire.
But, more notably, the Left has insisted that political violence is a right-wing phenomenon, despite the wealth of evidence to the contrary. Along with the allegations against Rinderknecht and Mangione, you have a long list that includes multiple legitimate assassination attempts against President Donald Trump, assassination attempts against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and former New York governor candidate Lee Zeldin, the congressional baseball shooting, the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and more.
As notable as this is, this wouldn’t even be the first example of left-wing arson. That would come from the fires started in Minneapolis and other cities during the Black Lives Matter riots in 2020. The damages from those riots topped $1 billion.
Nor, if this is true, is it surprising simply from a logical perspective. The modern Left is consumed by hatred and a lack of purpose. Democratic politicians and liberal media tell their left-wing base that people (typically the rich) are conspiring to prevent them from having success in life. They are also telling these same people that life is meaningless because the planet is going to die in a few years and the future will be lost forever.

Is it so much of a shock that telling people that everyone is out to get them and we’re all going to die leads to them taking violent, extreme actions?
The American Left’s demonization and doomsaying are naturally going to radicalize people, particularly if their lives are already heading in the wrong direction. The allegations against both Mangione and Rinderknecht are the realization of exactly that, which is why left-wing violence has become so common and so deadly in the past half-decade.
