Trump gives first look at UFC 250 arena planned for White House lawn

President Donald Trump hosted a number of UFC fighters on Wednesday for an impromptu event to tout the upcoming fight on the White House South Lawn in honor of America’s 250th Independence Day celebrations.

The event, which will feature the likes of Justin Gaethje, Ilia Topuria, and more, is slated for June 14, the same day as the president’s 80th birthday.

Trump estimated that as many as 100,000 people would attend the fights, with roughly 4,000 seats on the South Lawn itself and the rest of the crowd watching on eight viewing screens set up at The Ellipse.

“They say it’s the greatest sport. I could do it, you know, but I’d rather sink a 3-footer personally,” the president told the gathered group of reporters while showing off renderings of the arena. “But there’s no better thing to watch than this.”

“I think it’s going to be the biggest event we’ve ever had. I mean, the White House doesn’t really do athletic events, and these are all the greatest champions,” he added later in his remarks. “They’re the greatest fighters in the world. You can tell by looking at it, these are the greatest fighters in the world.”
