Trump endorses Lindsey Graham after senator’s consistent backing of Iran war

President Donald Trump on Friday endorsed Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) as he seeks reelection in the 2026 midterm elections, praising the senator from South Carolina who has championed the president’s actions in the Iran war.

Graham, a longtime foreign policy hawk, has emerged as one of the most vocal proponents of Trump’s Iran strategy, repeatedly supporting the president’s threats of force and broader military campaign.

In his endorsement, Trump also seized the opportunity to rip Graham’s opponent, Republican Mark Lynch, for supporting other Republicans who have been critical of the Trump administration.

“He is running against a LUNATIC named Mark Lynch, who supports perhaps the Worst Congressman in the History of our Country, Thomas Massie, of the Great Commonwealth of Kentucky,” Trump said in a Truth Social post.

“I don’t have to go into great detail, but needless to say, Mark Lynch would be a DISASTER for the Republican Party, and Lindsey Graham just, GETS THE JOB DONE. VOTE FOR LINDSEY ALL THE WAY,” the president continued.

Trump’s post was followed by an announcement that he had met with Graham and Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY) amid the ongoing Department of Homeland Security shutdown to discuss funding for Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Patrol.

In the meeting with Graham and Barrasso, the president said the plan for a reconciliation bill is “on track” to deliver funding to the agencies, calling for a final bill to reach his desk by June 1.

The president also used the post to tout declining crime rates and urge Republican unity in passing the measure without Democratic support to “beat the Radical Left Democrats at their own game.” Trump’s message highlighted Graham’s role not only in foreign policy but also in advancing the president’s domestic priorities.

In recent months, Graham has pushed for a strong military posture in Iran, arguing that such action is necessary to deter Iran and protect U.S. interests. At the same time, the senator has also expressed skepticism about potential ceasefire terms, warning against concessions that could allow Iran to regroup.

The longtime GOP Senator expressed ceasefire stipulations similar to the president’s, including that Iran can no longer enrich uranium.

“Many countries have peaceful nuclear power but do not enrich uranium,” Graham said. “At a minimum, that should be the case for Iran.”

In the same post, Graham later added, “I’m interested in a deal that will stop their maniacal drive to a nuclear weapon, among other things.”
