Police video shows Tiger Woods saying he called Trump after flipping car

Professional golfer Tiger Woods evidently spoke with President Donald Trump on the phone minutes after he got in a rollover car crash in Florida last Friday.

In law enforcement body camera footage obtained by several outlets, Woods is seen at the end of a phone call, telling a police officer that he was speaking with the president. Minutes later, Woods was charged with a DUI for his involvement in the crash.

“Yeah, I was just talking to the president,” Woods told the police officer. “Trying to get away from everybody.”

Trump and Woods have spoken about their close friendship in the past, with the president speaking out several times since Woods’ accident. Immediately following the news of the crash, Trump told reporters that he felt “so badly” for Woods.

“There was an accident, and that’s all I know,” Trump told reporters last Friday. “A very close friend of mine — he’s an amazing person, an amazing man.”

Trump also praised Woods’ decision to seek treatment after the DUI charge. Though police found Woods with two hydrocodone pills in his pocket and bloodshot eyes after the crash, the golf legend pleaded not guilty to the DUI. Several days after the incident, Woods announced he would be “stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health.”

“It’s a good thing that he’s doing, but he’s going to end up being terrific,” Trump said of Woods. “He’s a great guy. He’s one of the greatest people I’ve known.”

Though the police body camera footage did not pick up on much of the phone conversation between Woods and Trump, Woods can be seen ending the phone call by saying, “Thank you so much. All right, you got it. Bye. Thank you. Bye.”

The Washington Examiner has reached out to the White House for comment.
