President Donald Trump said he is working with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to clean up the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool on the National Mall.
“Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and I are working on fixing the absolutely filthy Reflecting Pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “This work was supposed to be done by the Biden Administration, but Sleepy Joe doesn’t know what ‘CLEAN’ or proper maintenance is — The President and Secretary do!”
Located in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., the reflecting pool gets dirty throughout the year as it collects bird feces, bacteria, pollen, and trash with a high volume of foot traffic. The reflecting pool is typically cleaned annually, according to WUSA9.
It was not immediately clear what Trump meant by “fixing” the pool.
Burgum confirmed the initiative on Tuesday, sharing Trump’s Truth Social post on X.
“Unlike the Biden administration, @POTUS knows how to get things done!” Burgum wrote. “@Interior is working to Make D.C. Safe and Beautiful! Proud to work with you on this important task, Mr. President.”

The National Park Service posted a video of it cleaning the reflecting pool in late February 2025. The park service drains the pool and uses a “Super Scrubber” technique to clean the facility.
