Washington Examiner chief political correspondent Byron York said that Democratic lawmakers eyeing the White House will need to “reckon” with the last administration’s handling of immigration and border security.
Authorities identified Mohamed Bailor Jalloh, a naturalized U.S. citizen from Sierra Leone who spent six years in the Virginia National Guard, as the gunman in the Old Dominion University shooting in Virginia. Jalloh admitted to attempting to assist ISIS, a designated terrorist group, in 2017, and prosecutors said he thought committing terrorist attacks was “100% the right thing.”
York emphasized the details learned after “terrible” events, including the perpetrator, and the “lots of effects” that sanctuary cities have nationwide. He added that the border policy under the Biden administration was different from others by having illegal immigrants “all over the world” crossing the border, with “large numbers” of these people being able to stay in the U.S. “unvetted.”
“Now if you remember the 2020 Democratic primary race, it was essentially a bidding contest over who would be softest on immigration, and Joe Biden won that contest, and I do think that that’s going to be a real issue to watch in the 2028 Democratic primaries to see how candidates will reckon with what happened under Biden and vow not to make it happen again,” York said on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle Monday.
York also said the U.S. has “essentially imported some of the world’s worst conflicts” to play out in the city’s streets. He cited the recent attacks in Texas and Michigan over the last month, saying it is part of a “huge failure of U.S. immigration policy.”
