Activity at all major Washington, D.C.-area airports was halted on Friday afternoon after officials said there was an “equipment outage.”
Baltimore-Washington International, Reagan National, and Dulles International airports were all issued ground stops. The temporary halt to air travel is expected to last until at least 7 p.m. EDT, according to the Federal Aviation Administration’s alert page.
The temporary closure was due to a “strong odor” at Potomac TRACON that is affecting some air traffic controllers, said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
