Anna Paulina Luna endorses Dan Crenshaw after Freedom Caucus backs opponent

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) is endorsing Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) for reelection in the 2026 elections, a few days after her former Freedom Caucus colleagues endorsed the Texas congressman’s opponent.

Luna used to be a member of the conservative Freedom Caucus but left the group after a handful of members threatened to hold up House votes to prevent her from getting a vote on a provision to allow proxy voting for new parents.

The Freedom Fund, the caucus’s PAC, endorsed Steve Toth over the incumbent Crenshaw on Tuesday, calling Toth a “true conservative.” But Luna is sticking by Crenshaw, saying he was one of the very few of her GOP colleagues to stand by her when she pushed for inherent contempt against former Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“So today, I’m returning the favor: I’m with Dan Crenshaw,” Luna said in a video posted to Crenshaw’s account. “Dan has done a lot behind the scenes to weed out the public corruption in Washington.”

Crenshaw was the sole House Republican incumbent not to receive an endorsement from President Donald Trump when he rolled them out last week. The president has not made any public remarks about why he is not endorsing Crenshaw, particularly as the four-term congressman has positioned himself as an ally of the president.

But Crenshaw has come under fire for some of his foreign policy stances. While the congressman argues he has remained in lockstep with Trump, he is a strong backer of aid to Ukraine — breaking with a majority of the Republican Party. He also distanced himself from Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was stolen.

TRUMP ENDORSES TEXAS REPUBLICANS BUT LEAVES OUT DAN CRENSHAW

Crenshaw is still pushing television ads that include Trump calling him “great,” according to NBC News. In an interview with the Houston Chronicle, he defended his conservative principles.

“If you think I’m not MAGA enough, then you’re not following me on social media, that’s the reality,” Crenshaw said. “If you don’t think I support Trump enough, then you’re not following me, you’re not listening to a thing I say. I’m out there defending his policies pretty hard and have defended them in extremely hard places in the past.”
