Gov. Andy Beshear (D-KY) announced the release of his memoir on Wednesday, becoming the latest Democratic governor and potential presidential candidate to release a book ahead of the 2028 elections.
Beshear’s new memoir, titled Go and Do Likewise: How We Heal a Broken Country, is set for release on Sept. 22. The book, published with St. Martin’s Publishing Group of Macmillan Publishers, “reclaims faith as a force for good in public life and rebukes those who use it to harm and discriminate,” according to the synopsis.
“Beshear will share what his own faith has meant to him, how it has informed his family and his public life—and serves as a rebuke to how faith has been hijacked, profaned, misused, and corrupted by Donald Trump and other public figures. By regrounding faith in compassion and kindness, we can start to heal as a country,” the memoir synopsis reads.
The grandson of Baptist lay ministers, Beshear has been vocal about his Christian faith throughout his time in public office. His memoir gets its name from biblical verse Luke 10:37, which follows the parable of the Good Samaritan. Beshear teased the book announcement on X on Tuesday evening.
“It’s driven by my faith and values, and I believe it offers a pathway forward that can bring people together,” he said.
The second-term Kentucky governor has made many moves typical of a politician likely to launch a presidential run. In addition to Wednesday’s book announcement, he flew to Davos to speak with foreign leaders at the World Economic Forum, inked a podcast deal with Sirius XM, and has notched himself a party leadership position by becoming the head of the Democratic Governors Association.
Beshear has not ruled out a 2028 run for president, publicly pitching himself as Democrats’ best chance to beat Vice President JD Vance in a general election.
But the Bluegrass State Democrat isn’t the only governor dropping memoirs, meeting with foreign leaders, or launching podcasts with his eyes seemingly set on 2028.
THE 2028 DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL CONTENDER MUST-HAVE ACCESSORY: A TELL-ALL BOOK
Govs. like Gavin Newsom (D-CA), Josh Shapiro (D-PA), Wes Moore (D-MD), and JB Pritzker (D-IL) have each signaled interest in having their names atop a presidential ticket. Newsom announced his book in December 2025, and Shapiro just released his memoir Where We Keep the Light in early 2026.
Pundits have also eyed Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, and former Vice President Kamala Harris as possible 2028 contenders as well.
