Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) is launching a national book tour in support of his book, Stand, joining a growing parade of Democratic leaders turning to published memoirs as they cultivate national profiles ahead of the 2028 presidential cycle.
Booker’s tour will begin with a March 22 event at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark ahead of the book’s release on March 24.
The book is being published under St. Martin’s Press and “offers a hopeful and urgent call to action rooted in enduring American ideals,” according to the tour announcement.
Booker has often been a Trump antagonist and has joined a swarm of Democrats condemning Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations.
In April 2025, Booker made a historic speech on the Senate floor lasting for over 25 hours, setting a new Senate record for the longest individual speech. Booker also ran for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 presidential election.
According to Karen Finney, a Democratic operative who advised on Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign, memoirs signal a candidate is battening down the hatches for a presidential run.
Finney told MS Now that books give hopefuls the opportunity “to own your story and define your narrative.”
Booker’s tour places him alongside other prominent Democrats using book tours to expand their political reach.
Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) released his first memoir in January, titled Where We Keep the Light: Stories From a Life of Service.
Shapiro’s book details crucial moments in his personal and political life. He touches on the several offices he has held and mentions that then-Vice President Kamala Harris was considering him for her running mate in 2024.
Shapiro is up for reelection in the midterm elections and is viewed as a possible candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2028.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) will release his third book, Young Man in a Hurry: A Memoir of Discovery, on Feb. 24.
Newsom said the memoir will recount his childhood and upbringing, his time as San Francisco’s mayor, and his tenure as governor. He told the Democratic National Committee that it is not a “politician’s book,” though its release falls in line with the governor hinting at a possible run for president.
Harris has also remained in the spotlight with her political memoir 107 Days, which recounts her 2024 presidential campaign.
Harris announced an international book tour last year and has extended appearances in 2026. She will travel to several swing states and South Carolina.
BOOKS BY POLITICIANS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN 2026 AHEAD OF MIDTERM ELECTIONS
Harris passed on a run for governor of California in 2026 and said she is still sorting out her place in the political sphere.
She hasn’t announced if she will seek the Oval Office in 2028, but said her book is about “remembering where we were, only for the purposes of contextualizing this moment, and then thinking about where we have to go.”
