Let’s stop pretending that the crusade to unmask Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers is anything other than a nefarious attempt to cause them violence and harm.
For months now, Democrats have had an obsession with demanding that ICE officers remove masks during their operations. Multiple Democrats, including Sen. Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA), passed largely unenforceable laws requiring ICE officers not to wear masks in their cities and states. They’ve provided myriad reasons for this unmasking, but truthfully, there is only one reason for it: so ICE officers can be harassed and harmed.
Consider the inflammatory rhetoric Democrats have used to demonize illegal immigration enforcement operations. From labeling ICE, Border Patrol, and Department of Homeland Security officials as, mentioned above, Nazis, fascists, and the Gestapo to parroting false news stories, Democrats have engaged in a propaganda campaign to discredit federal law enforcement officers and characterize these American citizens as enemies of the population.
Think, for a second, just how unhinged that is. Democrats have branded citizens, employees of the federal government, as an enemy occupying force, all for upholding federal immigration laws.
ICE, Border Patrol, and other federal officers risk their lives daily to protect innocent people from being victims of violent crime, and Democrats denigrate them for doing so. Approximately 70% of the illegal immigrants ICE has arrested were “convicted or charged with a crime in the U.S,” and Democrats denigrate the federal officers removing them. This includes rapists, murderers, pedophiles, and drug traffickers, yet Democrats object to law enforcement holding and arresting these monsters. They prefer these criminals to be in this country solely because they are illegal immigrants.
Democrats have proven to be ruthless in their condemnation of ICE officers and any federal officer participating in illegal immigration enforcement operations. They have denigrated them as fascists, Nazis, slave patrols, Gestapo, and any number of variations of some of the worst groups and organizations human civilization has experienced. Democrats do not want illegal immigration enforcement and resort to their usual demonization of law enforcement officials to advance their ideological positions. There’s no other rhyme or reason for these pejoratives and vilifications.
Moreover, the outrage is all performative hysteria with one purpose: to influence public opinion against illegal immigration enforcement. Democrats are aware that their policies are terrible, and they cannot win on the campaign trail if they rely on their political results. Statistics show they lead to mostly despair, typically correlating with a rise in poverty, regulation, crime, and other negative societal factors. So, they resort to theatricality and hyperbolic hysterics — hysterics such as the demonization of American law enforcement officers. And with their incessant national calls to unmask these officers, they’re asking for something that will have devastating consequences if granted.
Even Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) acknowledged that calls to unmask ICE officers is a terribly dangerous idea that will endanger the lives of federal law enforcement officers. During an interview on Fox News’s Sunday Briefing, he objected to Democrats’ calls to unmask officers, citing the dangers associated with doing so, and, more importantly, the need for them to wear masks.

“I also say now, some of those, the agents wearing masks,” Fetterman said. “I think primarily that’s driven by people are going to dox those people. That’s a serious concern, too. Absolutely. They could target their families, and they are organizing these people to put their names out there. So don’t ever, ever dox people and target their families, too. So that’s part of the churn as well now, too.”
Fetterman knows it. Democrats know it. Everybody knows it. The only reason to want to unmask ICE and other federal officers is so anti-ICE agitators, vigilantes, and other left-wing Democratic operatives can intimidate and endanger these law enforcement officers. And that is precisely why unmasking those officers must never be permitted.
