Independent journalist Nick Shirley, who sparked a national firestorm with his findings on Minnesota‘s “billion-dollar-fraud,” will testify at 10 a.m. on Wednesday before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance.

The hearing is titled, “When Public Funds Are Abused: Addressing Fraud and the Theft of Taxpayer Dollars.”

It will examine how fraud schemes exploited federally funded programs while highlighting the need for enhanced investigation, enforcement, and prosecution to hold offenders accountable.

Shirley produced a viral video on alleged widespread fraud at Somali-run child care centers in Minnesota, saying numerous facilities receiving millions in public funding appeared to be empty or nonoperational.
