EXCLUSIVE — Retiring Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) is pushing for Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY) to succeed her in the Senate, calling her a good friend and a “real workhorse for Wyoming” in a full-throated Thursday endorsement.
“Harriet is one of the most prepared and engaged people I know – she never backs down from a fight and never stops working for the people of Wyoming,” Lummis said in a statement first shared with the Washington Examiner.
Hageman, who has represented Wyoming in the House since 2023, launched her campaign for Senate back in December, days after Lummis announced she would step down at the end of her term.
Since then, Hageman has earned the backing of President Donald Trump and is seen as the prohibitive favorite to succeed Lummis.
She has no other major challengers in a state the president won by 46 points in 2024, and on Monday also received the support of Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-WY), who holds Wyoming’s other Senate seat.

“Having worked side by side with Harriet over these past few years, I’ve seen firsthand her dedication to our state and her tireless work ethic,” Lummis said in a statement. “Together, we’ve fought to deliver real results for Wyoming families, pushed back against Washington overreach from the Biden administration, and championed an America First agenda that helps Wyoming workers.”
“I have no doubt she’ll be an outstanding Senator,” Lummis added. “I’m proud to join President Trump in endorsing her in this vital race.”

Hageman is most notorious for unseating former Rep. Liz Cheney, a member of House Republican leadership who became a foe of the president after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Lummis, 71, had initially signaled she would run for a second term but cited a “change of heart” late last year that she attributed to the Senate’s “exhausting” schedule.
“For most of her adult life — almost five decades — Cynthia Lummis has devoted her energy, effort, and intelligence to fighting for the people of Wyoming, and our state is much better for it,” Hageman said in a statement. “As she retires from the Senate, it is a high honor for me to receive her endorsement as I ask the people of our wonderful state for support to follow her in that office.”
