Washington Examiner columnist Joe Concha warned that Democrats will have a “big problem” in the 2026 midterms if President Donald Trump delivers on his economic plan.
“At this point, 2026 is all about how the economy will perform,” Concha said on Fox News’s Hannity. “Democrats can’t just say ‘Donald Trump bad, resist him, save democracy.’ They’re going to need a plan.”

Concha’s remarks came after Trump delivered a speech in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, the latest stop of the president’s affordability tour.
During his speech, Trump blamed former President Joe Biden for the current economic challenges Americans are facing and warned of a second government shutdown in less than three months over the extension of the Affordable Care Act’s premium tax credit.

Concha said Democrats will need a plan if Trump delivers on his economic plan.
“If Donald Trump is delivering on his plan in terms of the economy, they’re going to have a big big problem in November of 2026,” he said.
Concha also discussed Trump’s economic agenda, arguing the tariffs were the “biggest bet” of Trump’s career.
When Trump initially unveiled his reciprocal tariffs, Concha pointed out, critics warned that it would lead to a recession and a stock market crash.
“Instead, now, what do we see today for example, the stock market is above 48,000 heading towards 50,000,” Concha said. “So the tariff war, as far as Trump engaging it, did not hurt the economy the way many people said it would.”

Concha also highlighted the Trump administration’s accomplishments both foreign and domestic, saying the president will remind the public ahead of the 2026 midterms.
“Now that’s what 2026 is about,” Concha said. “Selling what happened in 2025 and what’s going to happen in 2026.”
