Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) and California Democrats continue to run California into the ground with more excessive spending and no slowdown in sight.
California is facing yet another budget shortfall, this time coming up short $17.7 billion. This is despite California Democrats dealing with the issue for years, resulting in budget cuts and ever-increasing taxes and regulations strangling California households.
And it only gets worse from there. The budget deficit could reach $35 billion for fiscal 2027-28, the result of California Democrats constantly kicking the can down the road rather than sitting down and fixing the problem.
CALIFORNIA TRIGGERS TRANSPARENCY CONCERNS AFTER SINKING $450 MILLION INTO SCRAPPED 911 PROJECT
There is no Republican to blame here. Newsom can’t even pretend that President Donald Trump and his tariff-driven inflation are the problem, as he does with the cost of living. The budget is crafted by Democrats with no real input from Republicans. California has actually seen revenue growth for the past four years, driven by tax hikes such as the gas tax, and yet has faced a budget deficit in every one of those years. The state actually overperformed estimated tax revenue this year, and yet the budget forecast has only gotten worse.
The result is budget delays, increased borrowing, and depleting reserve funds. The actual budget cuts are few and far between, as Newsom and California Democrats promise a grand bill of goods and don’t want to have to go back on those promises. California has a bunch of programs that accomplish nothing and multiple projects that are wasting money (hello, high-speed rail), and the state is going broke as a result.
CALIFORNIA’S SECRETIVE, OVER-BUDGET CAPITOL CONSTRUCTION IS A DISGRACE
Nothing is stopping Newsom and California Democrats from ending the useless programs and projects they impose on the state other than their own hubris. If they were to do that, they could begin lowering taxes for Californians and making life more affordable for the millions of people in the state who see the California dream fading away. Instead, Californians get ever-increasing taxes and delayed funding to programs they were promised, because California Democrats can’t balance a budget.
California’s decay is being driven entirely by the California Democratic Party, which is obsessed with culture war fights and trying to solve any inconvenience in life with a bloated, inefficient government program. Newsom and the rest of the California Democratic Party are either unable to balance a budget or don’t care if they indefinitely delay programs they are funding by taking chunks out of Californians’ paychecks.
