President Donald Trump on Friday directed the FBI and the Department of Justice to investigate disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein‘s ties to leading Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton.
The Epstein saga continued to be a thorn in Trump’s side this week, with conspiracy theories swirling after thousands of his emails were released by the House Oversight Committee. Trump vented his frustrations on Truth Social, saying Democrats were “doing everything in their withering power to push the Epstein Hoax again,” and bemoaning that “some Weak Republicans have fallen into their clutches because they are soft and foolish.”
“Epstein was a Democrat, and he is the Democrat’s (sic) problem, not the Republican’s problem! Ask Bill Clinton, Reid Hoffman, and Larry Summers about Epstein, they know all about him, don’t waste your time with Trump. I have a Country to run!” he wrote.
The post seems to have planted a wider idea in his head, as he followed it up an hour later with an announcement that the FBI and DOJ would be investigating Democrats’ ties with Epstein.
Trump wrote, “Now that the Democrats are using the Epstein Hoax, involving Democrats, not Republicans, to try and deflect from their disastrous SHUTDOWN, and all of their other failures, I will be asking A.G. Pam Bondi, and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions, to determine what was going on with them, and him.”
“This is another Russia, Russia, Russia Scam, with all arrows pointing to the Democrats. Records show that these men, and many others, spent large portions of their life with Epstein, and on his ‘Island.’ Stay tuned!!!” he concluded.
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Friday afternoon that U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jay Clayton will lead the investigation for the DOJ.
HOUSE DEMOCRAT CLAIMS TRUMP SPENT THANKSGIVING 2017 WITH EPSTEIN, CITING EMAILS
Democrats seized on the trove of released emails, with some mentioning Trump by name. Although the emails showcased the animosity between Trump and Epstein, with the latter saying he’d never met anyone “as bad as Trump,” critics combed through the emails for any evidence of links between the two after their documented falling out in the mid-2000s, to no avail.
Despite a lack of evidence, many Democrats believe the emails showed that Trump spent his first Thanksgiving as president with Epstein.
