Democrats continue to try and place the blame for healthcare costs on the GOP, ignoring that they were the ones who broke the healthcare system when they “fixed” it over a decade ago with Obamacare.
The messaging from the mediocrities that make up Democratic leadership has ignored the Democratic role in breaking the healthcare system, instead fabricating a reality where it is the GOP’s fault. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said Republicans fail “to do anything of substance to fix America’s healthcare crisis.” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) went further, saying Republicans “refuse to address the devastating healthcare crisis they created.”
NOT ONE MORE TAXPAYER DIME TO BAIL OUT THE (UN)AFFORDABLE CARE ACT
But what crisis was there supposed to be when Democrats “fixed” the healthcare system with the so-called “Affordable Care Act” in 2010? Colloquially known as Obamacare, this was supposed to make healthcare coverage more universal and more affordable, as then-President Barack Obama repeatedly assured the public. It didn’t: Health insurance premiums for a family of four have doubled since 2010, and Americans went from spending $2.2 trillion on healthcare each year to $3.6 trillion.
Since Obamacare, the healthcare debate has been Republicans promising but refusing to ever make significant changes to healthcare policy, and Democrats screaming bloody murder over those empty GOP promises. Voters hated Obamacare so much that they punished Democrats at the ballot box for the next several elections, resulting in the Democratic Party losing hundreds of seats across the country. But voters are also squeamish at the thought of more changes. Combine that with Democrats never shutting up about healthcare costs resulting from them “fixing” the problem, and voters give Democrats the edge on this issue.
LET THE COVID-19 OBAMACARE BAILOUTS END
Whether you want to criticize the GOP for not having a plan or not, the fact remains that this “crisis,” as Democrats call it, is a Democratic crisis. They created it when they made the healthcare system worse in 2010, on the promise that they would make everything better and cheaper. Schumer would know, given that he voted for Obamacare in 2010. The crisis here is not Republicans wanting to end subsidies that keep Democrats’ terrible plan afloat. The crisis is that Democrats broke the healthcare system and want more subsidies to avoid admitting that they have failed.
Democrats have proven they cannot be trusted on healthcare, as evidenced by their near-universal refusal to acknowledge that Obamacare was a failure. Democrats made the system worse and haven’t stopped blaming Republicans for it since, and the result is higher costs for people and a debate that can’t go anywhere as Democrats drown it in hysterics.
