Sens. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Bernie Moreno (R-OH) sparred during a Senate Commerce hearing Wednesday, the Nevada senator accusing Moreno of being “creepy” for recording her team’s vehicle identification numbers.
The hearing, which was supposed to revolve around transportation nominees, began to unravel as Moreno detailed that he had obtained the VINs of his Democratic colleagues’ cars.
He said that Democrats were hypocritical for mandating additional driver assistance technologies when they didn’t have such technologies for their cars.
Rosen said the move is an “overreach” and encroached on her and her staff’s privacy. She added that she also thought it was “a little creepy.”
“If you came and asked me for my VIN, I will tell you what I have in my car,” Rosen said.

The fight intensified as Moreno mentioned Rosen’s “hypocrisy,” and the Nevada senator retorted with a comment about the government shutdown. The Ohio senator also went after Rosen for receiving her paycheck, but she claimed she was donating it.
“What do you say to the TSA workers, the air traffic controllers, the military, the Capitol Police?” Moreno asked as they talked over each other. Those workers are not being paid during the government shutdown.
“I am saying to you that this is a Republican shutdown, my friend, you are in control of the White House, you are in control of the House, and you are in control of the Senate,” Rosen responded.
She then criticized Moreno for attending a party at Mar-a-Lago instead of going to a food bank. His staff told The Hill that he did not attend the party, which was a Halloween event.
“If you went home to a food bank instead of going to Mar-a-Lago, to eat at a gold-plated dinner while people are starving, you might see and hear your constituents, sir. You are blind to the suffering of your people,” she said.
GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN BECOMES LONGEST IN US HISTORY
Rosen posted on X after the exchange, advising Moreno on how to use his time: “I’d suggest he use his time in more productive ways – like coming to the table and negotiating with Democrats on actions to protect Americans’ access to affordable health care and end this Republican shutdown.”
The exchange illustrated that tensions remain high in Congress as the government shutdown continues into its 37th day.
