Erika Kirk, widow of the late Charlie Kirk, argued that cameras should be allowed in the courtroom where her husband’s assassination case is being scrutinized.
Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, left behind his wife and two young children after he was killed in September during a TPUSA event on a college campus in Utah. Authorities have named Tyler Robinson, 22, as the prime suspect in the case.
In an excerpt of an interview set to air in full on Wednesday, Erika Kirk pushed against an effort from Robinon’s legal team to exclude cameras from the courtroom.
“There were cameras all over my husband when he was murdered. There have been cameras all over my friends and family mourning. There have been cameras all over me, analyzing my every move, analyzing my every smile, my every tear,” she told Fox News host Jesse Watters.
“We deserve to have cameras in there. Why not be transparent? There’s nothing to hide. I know there’s not, because I’ve seen what the case is built on. Let everyone see what true evil is. This is something that could impact a generation and generations to come,” she added.
Charlie Kirk’s murder at Utah Valley University campus on Sept. 10, 2025, was one of the highest-profile assassinations of a political figure in decades. It provoked a national conversation about the polarization of U.S. politics and concerns that the constitutional right to free speech is being eroded. It also fueled accusations from conservatives that some on the Left have been increasingly radicalized to target those holding opposing viewpoints with political violence.
Theories have abounded over the nature of Charlie Kirk’s killing. Some observers have become divided over whether Robinson acted alone or is being framed due to concerns about several matters, including the authenticity of “stilted” text messages authorities said he sent confessing to the murder and allegations he went to a Dairy Queen mere hours after being accused of the assassination.
Media personality Candace Owens has speculated that Zionists were behind Charlie Kirk’s murder as part of a broader government or intelligence plot.
Robinson is set to appear in court next on Jan. 16, 2026, for another pretrial hearing, with a subsequent hearing set for Jan. 30, 2026. The in-person hearings will start at 1 p.m. Mountain Standard Time at the Utah County Courthouse in Provo, Utah.
He faces charges of seven counts, six of which are felonies, including murder and multiple counts of witness tampering and obstruction of justice in connection with Charlie Kirk’s assassination. The maximum punishment for the charges levied against Robinson includes the death penalty.
