House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) dismissed reporters’ questions on Wednesday about the sextortion allegations made against Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL), who was hit with a restraining order the day before.
“I have not heard or looked into any of the details of that,” Johnson said during a press conference on Capitol Hill, adding he’s not aware of the specific details in Mills’s case. “I’ve been a little busy. We have a House Ethics Committee. If it warrants that, I’m sure they’ll look into that.”
Johnson referred further questions to Mills, whom the House speaker called a “faithful colleague” based on his work in Congress. He then told the press to ask questions that are “really serious,” seemingly referring to the prolonged government shutdown.
Mills was handed a restraining order in a Florida court on Tuesday after he harassed his ex-girlfriend and Miss United States beauty pageant winner, Lindsey Langston, for months after their breakup.
Langston alleged Mills threatened to release sexually explicit content of her and to harm any future boyfriends she may have. Langston claimed she became “physically ill” and was forced to take prescribed medications to treat her constant state of anxiety due to the congressman’s actions, per the court filing.
The judge found the restraining order was necessary to protect Langston from future acts of dating violence, while concluding Mills “offered no credible rebuttal” to her testimony.
The newly granted restraining order prohibits Mills from going within 500 feet of Langston’s home or workplace and bars him from contacting her, either directly or indirectly, especially on social media. The injunction lasts until at least Jan. 1, 2026.

The couple separated earlier this year after Langston discovered Mills had abused another woman, who he was also dating, amid divorce proceedings with his wife. In February, the House Republican was accused of domestic assault at his condo in Washington, D.C., where police got involved. Langston reportedly found out about his side relationship from news reports.
Separately, Mills remains under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for possible violations of federal finance laws and House rules. It remains to be seen whether the committee looks into his sextortion allegations following the restraining order.
