Three people have been killed in related shootings committed by a now-deceased suspect in the Houston area, police said on Wednesday.
The Houston Police Department is trying to determine a motive for the shooting spree as the investigation remains ongoing.
The suspect, while driving in a Houston suburb, fired multiple shots at a female driver in a road rage shooting around 1 p.m. Wednesday local time, police said. The first victim was pronounced dead at the hospital.
After fleeing the scene, police said the shooter then killed a mechanic and a witness around 1:45 p.m. while reportedly getting into an argument at the mechanic’s shop. The witness started filming the suspect before he opened fire, killing the two men. The second shooting took place approximately 7 miles southeast of the first shooting.
The description of the shooter and the vehicle he drove matched in both incidents.
The suspect was found dead in his vehicle about 4 miles away around 2 p.m. He is believed to have turned the gun on himself and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Houston Police Department Lt. Larry Crowson said there is no known connection between the two shootings, only that these were committed by the same person.
“We just know that the guy was involved in the shooting there in Sugarland, drove to this location, went to the mechanic shop,” he told reporters. “I don’t know if his car broke down. We don’t know at this point. That’s part of the investigation.”
