Ukraine accuses Russia of ‘deliberate’ strike on civilians at railway station

.

Dozens of people have been injured following a Russian drone strike on a railway station in northeastern Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said.

Zelensky raged over the attack in a series of posts shared to X on Saturday morning, revealing that at least 30 people were injured in the drone strike in the Sumy region.

The Ukrainian president described the incident as a “savage” attack, adding that both railway staff and passengers were at the site of the drone strike.

Zelensky attached a 10-second video to his first post, which showed a damaged train car that was now on fire. Debris could be seen strewn across the track and adjacent platform.

Oleksiy Kuleba, the deputy prime minister of Ukraine, also confirmed on social media that a train station in Shostka was struck twice by Russian drones.

He revealed that the first strike hit a commuter train. Kuleba said the second occurred during the evacuation that followed the first strike, hitting the “electric locomotive.”

“Some passengers and railway workers are injured The enemy once again is deliberately striking at people and infrastructure,” Kuleba wrote in a post to X.

Not all the details regarding the victims were immediately available; however, BBC News reported that at least three children aged 8, 11, and 14 were among those who were injured.

“The Russians could not have been unaware that they were striking civilians. And this is terror the world must not ignore. Every day Russia takes people’s lives. And only strength can make them stop,” Zelensky wrote in a second post, urging future action from Ukraine’s western allies.

“We’ve heard resolute statements from Europe and America – and it’s high time to turn them all into reality, together with everyone who refuses to accept murder and terror as normal,” he continued. “Lip service is not enough now. Strong action is needed.”

As Russia has intensified drone and missile strikes on Ukraine in recent weeks, Zelensky has sought out long-range weapons from allies such as Tomahawk missiles from the United States.

Late last month, Zelensky told Axios that he personally asked President Donald Trump for an unnamed long-range weapon that could help end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

In the wake of collapsed negotiations between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump has publicly spoken out in favor of supplying weapons to Ukraine’s war effort.

“With time, patience, and the financial support of Europe and, in particular, NATO, [reclaimation of] the original Borders from where this War started, is very much an option,” Trump said in a post to Truth Social. “We will continue to supply weapons to NATO for NATO to do what they want with them.”

RUSSIA WARNS OF ‘APPROPRIATE RESPONSE’ AS TRUMP CONSIDERS TOMAHAWK MISSILES IN UKRAINE

Russia has warned NATO against becoming directly involved in its invasion of Ukraine, insisting that any action will be treated as an act of war.

This week, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that if the Trump administration approves the sale of Tomahawk missiles to be used in the Ukrainian conflict, Russia will be forced to take an “appropriate response.”
