Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) began a social media campaign Monday to accuse Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) of stolen valor.
Mills is an Army veteran who served with the 82nd Airborne Division and Joint Special Operations Command. However, Mace took issue with Mills’s claim, as it is explained on his website that “he was struck twice in 2006, once with an improvised explosive device and once with an Iranian explosively formed projectile, which resulted in numerous casualties.”
“Beginning to think nothing Cory Mills says is true. This guy has been parading himself around as some sort of U.S. Army special ops covert Ranger sniper James Bond 007 elite commando for years and it’s not even remotely close,” Mace said on X Monday.
Mace referred to Mills as “an ambulance driver mainly in the motor pool.”
“But instead he fabricated his resume, and stole stories from men who either gave their life for their country and can’t speak now or can’t speak for themselves due to their injuries,” Mace said. “‘Allegedly.’ Total Stolen Valor. And this guy sits on the House Armed Service committee? Unreal.”
Mills responded to Mace with a letter written by First Sergeant United States Army and Mills’s former team leader, Paul Sovitsky. The letter is dated July 19 of this year, and describes Mills’s role in 2006 as the “team’s medic.”
“I understand there may be a question as to what ‘blown up’ means to the military contractors that served in Iraq and Afghanistan,” Sovitsky writes.
Sovitsky explained that “it refers (in contractor speak) to being in a motorcade struck by improvised explosive devices. It does not necessarily mean that you are physically ‘blown up’ or even seriously injured.”
However, Mace dismissed Mills’s response, claiming that a letter “doesn’t say or prove anything.”
“I swear Cory Mills gets dumber with every statement he makes. It’s almost like his brain short-circuits when he’s called out on his bull****,” Mace said on X.
“This is what he does. Blows hot air hoping no one will notice. And you’re not allowed to question all of his many lies,” Mace said.
Mace claimed Mills was in contact with her via text. She continued to dispute Mills’s photos, suggesting a photo of himself with a bloody leg was soiled with the blood of one of his teammates, and demanding to verify Mills’s Bronze Star paperwork.

This online spat comes after Mills voted against censuring Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). The move to censure Omar over her criticisms of the late conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was one vote short of success, and Mills was one of four Republicans who went against their party.
